I have watched documentation entitled “What Darwin Never Knew” that talks about Darwin’s Theory of evolution. The scientists continue the study of evolution and answers questions that Darwin cannot answer back then. The theory of evolution by natural selection was first formulated in Charles Darwin’s book “On the Origin of Species” published in 1859. The summary of his proposal was that variation is a product of natural selection. Organisms change over time because of the changes in behavioral traits or physical traits and those changes allow organisms to better adapt to their environment.
His studies begin on his expedition in Argentina to Galapagos Islands. He collected birds from the different island of Galapagos and found out that those birds that have different beaks are just 13 different variations of a finch bird. I find this amazing and I do believe in evolution at some point because there is so many evidence about the evolution. Aside from that a lot of things that were presented throughout the video amazed and at the same time shocked us. An example of this is the number of genes a chicken has and the number of genes of humans. It was surprising that we have the same number of genes with chicken which is 23,000 genes, knowing that they say that humans are the most special species. Another example is a fish with four legs known as Tiktaalik; it is pretty surprising that there are fishes that have legs like us. I was amazed to know the differences and similarities of humans to apes; pieces of evidence of evolution were discussed briefly throughout the video, which left us astonished.
When people ask me if evolution does contradict the Bible? I always end up in a hard situation because as Christian this is what I believe in, that everything came from God but here Scientific theories are looking for new facts about the world and how it was created. Going back when I was in high school our Christian living teachers teaches us that everything that we see is made by God. It was said in the bible in the book of Genesis how God created the world, life, and everything. But just to give a fair view about Science and Faith let’s just converge the context between the two. In the documentary it says that “Life began in water or seas” in order to relate the Bible here is that “God created heavens and Earth”, He created everything especially life of organisms through bacteria and by the process of mutation that created new organisms and that organisms lived in seas, land, and air and followed by the last creation which is Adam and Eve.
Studies believed that living creatures started to be a marine organism and became a mammal (land), and so on and so forth. Based on a source that I read It is not the facts of science that are in conflict with Scripture but rather the Interpretations of the facts. Interpretations are based upon assumptions and the wrong assumptions can lead to wrong conclusions. To solve the conflict between Science and the Bible, never compare science to our faith. Consider the strength and weaknesses of the two and the beliefs of the people with that the power of God will go along the way to help us solve it.
